Making your own homemade jam has never been this easy.

Chia jam is the most simple jam one can ever, possibly make - for real. There are endless of variations of chia jams available and I made my first version years ago, when 100 Kitchen Stories hadn’t even become my job back then, but today I’m going to show you a super simple version that only needs 3 ingredients. My recipe is also vegan, gluten free, nut free and without refined white sugar, and still it tastes just like ordinary jam!

Did you know this about chia seeds…

Chia seeds are one of the most known superfoods over the planet due of it being loaded with nutrients and much more. I thought we could take the time to look into why chia seeds are so great:

  • One-ounce (28 grams) serving of chia seeds contains: 11 grams Fiber, 4 grams Proteins, 9 grams Fat (5 of which are omega-3s), 18% of the RDI Calcium, 30 % of the RDI Manganese, 30% of the RDI Magnesium and 27% of the RDI Phosphorus, which IS impressive considering this is a small size of serving.

  • Chia seeds are loaded with antioxidants.

  • Almost all of the carbs in chia seeds are fibers.

  • Chia seeds are high in protein. About 14"% of the seeds are proteins which is high for being a plant.

  • Chia seeds are great to use for vegan cooking and baking instead of using eggs. Eggs are often used to keep together the ingredients, and so can the chia seeds do. The seeds absorbs the water, making it into a gel-looking-mass which works like the eggs when baking. And yes, in this case we’re using the chia seeds to keep together the ingredients to one too.

THIS RECIPE IS:

  • Vegan

  • Gluten Free

  • Sugar Free

  • Nut Free

  • Only consisting of 3 ingredients

  • Tastes just like ordinary jam

Chia Jam

INGREDIENTS:

400 g fresh or frozen berries of choice

0.5 dl (4 tbsp) chia seeds

approx 0.5 dl (4 tbsp) stevia, coconut sugar or other sweetening

HOW TO MAKE:

  • If using frozen berries, preferably thaw the berries first.

  • Place the berries, chia seeds and sweetening of choice into a frying pan. If using fresh berries also add a little bit of water. Turn on the heat and combine them all together, letting the berries melt and become one.

  • Stir around for a few minutes and add more sweetening if you want (that can depend a bit on what kind of sweetening you choose). I personally like when there are a bit berry chunks left but you can cook it even more until it has become completely creamy if you’d like.

  • Pour the jam into an airtight container like a glas jar and let it cool with open lid before placing in the fridge.

  • Serve over your toast, porridge, in desserts etc.
